Diabetes

Autologous adult stem cell implantation improves the prognosis of type 2 diabetic patients. This is demonstrated by an original scientific work on autologous stem cell implantation in type 2 diabetic patients, according to a clinical trial led by Argentine scientists.

It was presented at the last Diabetes Technology Meeting, organized by the Diabetes Technology Society, in San Francisco, USA, on November 11. This is the most prestigious society that brings together the greatest technological advances in Diabetes in the world.

The scientific trial, led by Dr. Roberto Fernández Viña, revealed that the implantation of autologous stem cells extracted from the patient's own bone marrow and with minimal manipulation (as indicated by the Code of Federal Regulations of the Food and Drug Administration of USA (FDA), title 21 section 1271), improve the performance of the pancreas of the Diabetic patient and therefore their prognosis.

The study was carried out with the follow-up of 58 Type 2 diabetic patients, who were implanted with their own stem cells and controlled for 3 years. The results were that in 85.5 of the patients insulin production improved and normalized blood sugar levels.

This reveals a high probability of regeneration of pancreatic beta islets with the stem cell implant. Another thing that this study revealed is that Glycosylated Hemoglobin A1C decreased significantly, reaching normal values before three months; and maintaining these parameters during the following 3 years and maintaining these values prevents kidney failure, the development of arterial obstructions, coronary disease, stent and bypass obstruction, blindness and amputations, etc. reducing the risks of complications of this disease, and obviously mortality.
